| Percussion Scoring System Explained |
There have been a few questions about how the percussion side of the activity is scored. The percussion scoring system is different than the color guard system. Different weight is placed on certain sub-captions when deriving the total show score.
Each sheet contains sub-captions each worth 100 points. For example, the Performance Analysis sheet for marching percussion contains two sub-captions: Composition and Performance Quality. Each of these sub-captions is worth 100 points for a total of 200 points for the entire sheet. However, composition is weighted to be only 15% of the total show score, while performance quality is 25% of the total show score. Scoring each sub-caption with 100 points makes it easier for the judge derive a relevant number.
Here is a chart to better illustrate how the scores are created.
